PASSPORT & VISA

Persons wishing to enter Slovenia must have a relevant travel document. EU/EEA citizens do not need a passport to enter Slovenia, only a valid identity card.

On the basis of a bilateral agreement, Croatian citizens may also enter Slovenia with an identity card. A foreigner wishing to enter the Republic of Slovenia needs a valid passport and a visa or residence permit, unless otherwise stipulated by law or international agreement. Any alien who in accordance with the law does not need a permit to enter the country may stay in the Republic of Slovenia for not more than 90 days in a period of six months. ROAD TAXES

To drive on Slovenian motorways, expressways and the Ljubljana bypass you need a vignette. Vignettes have been introduced on 1 July 2008 for all motorcycles, cars and vans not exceeding 3,500 kg maximum laden weight. The one-year vignette costs 55 EUR while the half-year vignette costs 35 EUR. Vignettes for one-track vehicles/motorcycles cost 27.50 EUR (1-year) and 17.50 EUR (6-months). Vignettes can be purchased at filling stations in Slovenia and the neighbouring countries, in branch offices of the national and foreign automobile clubs, post offices across Slovenia and some kiosks. Drivers using toll roads without a valid and properly displayed vignette are fined 300 EUR to 800 EUR.

CLIMATE

Cimatic conditions in Slovenia vary but there is no bad time to visit Slovenia. There is a Continental climate in the northeast, a severe Alpine climate in the high mountain regions, and a sub-Mediterranean climate in the coastal region. Yet there is a strong interaction between these three climatic systems across most of the country. This variety is also reflected in climatic variability over time and is an important factor determining the impact of global climate change in the country.

Temperature in summer is between 20C and 30C and during the winter between -20C to 10C. Slovenia gets most of its rain in the late spring in May and June and in autumn in October and November. The coldest month is January with an average annual temperature -2C. The wormest month is July with an average annual temperature 21C.
